so had my game against bama sunday and we had an issue regarding the steam tank and charging. basically he flew peg knights around my back lines and on my turn i pivoted the steam tank and moved into them. bama said this was not legal and said i have to declare charges and have to charge units in my front arc like normal units. i didnt think this was correct and played on because i wasnt really to bothered by it, but when i got home i wanted to check and see how its played. so heres what i read, the steam tank has the special rule "random movement" so i looked this up in the rulebook and heres what it says

"Models with random movement cannot declare charges, and are always moved in the compulsary moves sub-phase. When the model moves first pivot it about its centre to face the direcion you wish it to travel. Then, roll the dice shown in the models profile (which in the steam tanks case is variable due to the amount of steam points used). Finally move the model directly forwards a number of inches equal to the total rolled by the dice. No other pivots can be made"

the next paragraph covers charging,

"Theres a chance the models particular movement will cause it to come in contact with an enemy, so measure the distance in a straight line before the model is moved. If the move is found to take the unit into contact wih an enemy, then it counts as charging, and is resolved with the normal rules for charges using the distance rolled as its charge range. Charge reactions cannot be declared against enemies with the random movement rule."

so i believe we played it wrong and i would have been able to charge because there are no rules for the steam tank that state otherwise or make an exception. I dont wanna seem like a jerk or rules laywer just wanna find out the rule for sure so i dont play it wrong in the future (because i really love my tank and want to bring him every game!  :D ) So maybe if someone can tell show me something im not seeing, or agree with me i just wanna get it figured out, thanks guys!

So after careful reading of the Book, I think you are right.  And I’ll tell you why I thought (at the time) that you were coerced into playing it the way you did.  In the FAQ it states (pg 2 paragraph 5) declare a charge as Normal (with normal being the key word).  That is what I was remembering most.  But as we all know, that FAQ was written for a different Book.  If the Steam Tank not charging was pivotal to your loss, I’m sure Bamma would give you a rematch.

Donovan, sorry about the steamtank rule. I was used to it actually having a front arc from the last book and I thought that translated over. I would have no problem replaying the game. We can just use the same lists and gambits or redo the whole thing. It's your call.

dont worry about it, i understand. im not worried about a rematch it was a good game and it could have gone either way all the way till the bottom of turn 6 which in my book makes for a fun tactical game. thanks for helping me clear up the rules to, i think im gonna have to start building my second tank any day now :D

Remember, just because you have two doesn't mean you have to use two.  :D

Okay now, y'all are starting to hurt my feelings. Do I have to run a list with no magic items to redeem myself? Run all peasants?
