I did take a Fire Dragon in my game against Kurt, so you will have to ask him what he thought about it. It's a tough model but it also costs 300 points and I didn't bring cannons that day. The Fire Dragon did very well that game. I don't think the regular SoM monsters are too bad but some of the Warhammer Forge stuff might be much for some (like the basalisk). I just thought it was a shame that more people didn't try to utilize that challenge. That way we could have a better sample to see whether it was too much or not.

That is a good point that not everyone has seen the SoM book. Fortunately, most of the monsters in there are from one of the army books (or more than one sometimes). I will say it was fun to play with something rather different with my Empire. That is one of the things I like about the challenge system as I tried out different things with my Empire. I have a tendency to form an "all-comers list" and play almost exclusivly with it. It is good to try new things. Now to get my Empire ready for the new book.

For the next league I would love for there to be no total power casting. Double sixes is still a miscast but you do not get to auto cast a spell on them unless the total needed for the spell is reached, in addition it is still dis-spellable. 8th edition has lost a lot of popularity because the magic has become so dominant, I would like to see if we could test out if this concept would balance it more.
That's my two cents.

Since magic is so powerful how about letting player buy more than one dispel scroll? Leave total power but allow players to buy as many dispel scrolls as they can carry. Bring back the old 7th edition scroll cadies back.
The point of the game is to have fun every time not win every time.
