Storm of Magic is like Lustria, except it can be used by evry army in the entire game.

Do I think it will replace normal play?  Of course not.  How often will you play Storm of Magic?  As often as you want to play.  So if you don't play tons of Warhammer now, you might not get a lot of Storm of Magic play out of it.

Besides the book, though, we also got some cool models (I for one love my Necromancer and am tempted to buy a Dark Elf Sorceress because she's so purdy).  Manticore, Chimaera, Terrain, Dragon, Cockatrice, they're all cool models with lots of different applications.  Okay, maybe the Chimaera's dragon head isn't cool.

And yes, I bought the Storm of Magic book even though I have no intention of actually playing a Storm of Magic game.  It's a good looking book, with some interesting reading inside, and lots of pretty pictures.

And looking at the menagerie in the back I'm reminded of ye olde Warhammer, when all armies could purchase bound monsters... and I can't help but wonder what a league where the Storm of Magic Menagerie was made available to everyone might be like...

I like that idea. It might be fun.

I like that idea too...If not the regular league, then a campaign.

I played Bama in my first Storm of Magic game and it was very different.  And very fun!  Honestly nothing mattered at all except the Wizards.  An occasional monster would wander over and attack something only to be ignored or killed quickly.  Our units didn't really even bother engaging each other.  It just came down to spells and who rolled a better magic phase.  And in the end, I was generating enough power dice that I won.  I'd play it again - it was a silly, outside-of-the-box kind of game =)  For the record the Arabyan Puzzlebox is freaking awesome!  And a Tzeentch Wizard with a re-rollable 1+ armour/2+ ward save is stupidly durable.

Two questions came up that I'll throw to the audience for a ruling.  Neither turned out to be game-breaking but for future reference...

1.  Can the Infernal Puppet modify all miscasts or just the table in the basic rule book?  At one time I remember it was being used to modify Gut Magic miscasts so I'd think "yes" but to be able to modify the Storm of Magic table is qutie heinous.

2.  The Tzeentch spell 'Pandamonium' prevents units from "gaining the benefits of any character's leadership".  Typically this isn't such an issue (because wizards are normally hiding in a block of something) but in Storm of Magic with most wizards being alone on their fuldrum and thus their own unit, what do they use for a leadership value?  I believe the RAI was that a big unit with a character in it can't use the character's or the Army General's leadership.  I read the RAW as...well...a lone Wizard is a unit...and can't benefit from his own leadership...  The rules do say any unit without a leaderhip value still pass leadership tests on a 2 but that seems harsh.

Thanks for the game Bama!  As over-the-top as everything was, I look forward to our next match!!

As far as this goes, the Wiz uses his base leadership. He is not benefiting from his own leadership per se, but reverting to his base leadership. In this instance, his base leadership would (shockingly) be his own leadership value. He wouldn't benefit from any Inspiring Presence from the General either.

The miscasts from the Storm of Magic has different terminology than that of the basic miscast.
As a rule of thumb, I would say NOTHING modifies, changes, or prevents that super miscast table, nor would any item induce the super-miscast.
It seems like that would be the most clear cut answer that prevents a huge list of case by case rulings.
