Does anyone have any advice or example army list for building a Scaven army? Thanks.

Stock up on plenty of clanrats, whole lots.

An example army list might look like:

Warlord w/ some sort of magic weapon
Chieftain w/ army standard
2 Warlock engineers w/ dispell scroll

3 units of 25 clanrats w/ full command and a ratling gun
2-3 units of 20 slaves
8-10 jezzails
maybe 2 units of 8-10 nightrunners
small unit (5-6) gutterrunners w/ tunneling and poisoned weapons

That would be a fairly solid core for 1500-1700, leaving about 400pts for whatever else you like. Maybe some plague monks and censor bearers, maybe some poison wind globidiers, maybe more jezzails, stormvermen, ratogres, warplightning cannon, use a grey seer instead of warlord, etc.

Skaven use a Mainstay rule for their army. They can't include more units of any other type of unit than they include units of clanrats. For example, if you have 2 units of clanrats you can have two units of jezzails, but not three. Or you could take one unit of clanrats, one unit of stormvermen, one unit of slave, one unit of jezzails, one unit of nightrunners, one unit of whatever but you can't double up on any units before you double up on clanrats. Its not really a big deal since clanrats are cheep and good enough for 80% of the fighting you'll do but its important to keep in mind.

If you decide to play skaven, I'd suggest no less than 60 clanrats before you buy anything else. After that you get a little more freedom but start with clanrats and plan on having around 200 models in your army to assemble and paint.
