1/1/8
Finished 20 Nightgoblins for Terry, they'd been started earlier, but most of the work went in today.
Started and Finished the last Phoenix Guard for Bama.
Started and Finished an Orc Shaman for Curtis.
Started a Skink Lord for Mark.
Started 10 more Night Goblins.
put a few more colors on 5 Flagellants for myself.
Started 5 Ogres for Matt.
Put some more touches on the Daemon Prince.

I really like the Empire Flaggies, I need to finish my unit.  I think I'll run them as Norse Marauders in my DoW army.  They basically fit the mold.  Frenzied and swinging flails.  Except mine have a better WS.

Finished some Praetorians for Cliff, 2 officers, 1 communication soldier and 1 autocannon dude.
Worked some more on 5 Ogres for Matt.
Did a couple layers of skin for the Nightgoblins.
Touched up some of the BloodBowl players for Josh.  Made two of them white, and put numbers on another two.
Finished Mark's Skink Lord, will take pictures tomorrow.
The Daemon Prince has spikes projecting from his chest, need to put greenstuff on the right side and I might have to pin the arms...no, I NEED to pin the arms, I just hate pinning.

No great pictures, but instead of messing with lighting and photo-shopping I'm painting and just posting the pictures so folks can keep an eye on things.

Back to work.

Started another 5 Ogres for Matt.

1/4/8
Finished 5 Ogres for Matt.
Worked a bit on 14 Night Goblins for Terry.
Worked a bit on 5 Flagellants for me.

I've gotten sick and coughing and sneezing doesn't help painting.  Took some medications, but they make me a bit light-headed, which also isn't good for painting, unless you're doing something as large as Ogres.

Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow and finish off those Night Goblins.  That'll be the first unit finished, I'll take a break and work on something smaller, a war machine or something.  Then back into the Night Goblin trenches.

Alex's disfigured Legion of Everblight thingie is looking down at me, need to get some primer on it if the weather dries up tomorrow and Ray's Orc Big Boss.

The Daemon Prince is waiting to be pinned, and the spike on his chest needs greenstuff, that'll have to wait though, knocked the stupid spike off 3 times already.

Curtis' Samurai Dwarf is waiting as well, but it's too small to mess right now.

And Mark's Carnesaur...

If the weather is dry I'll prime Rudy's...mounted on horses with big rifles..name escapes me...Outriders.  That's it.

And my Goblins rot.  Finished a unit of 20 Night Goblins and was very happy with them despite their being just Night Goblins.  15 converted common Goblins painted up.  and I'm hearing the Banshee wail of undead just three months away.  New kits to play with, Ghouls, Skeletons, Wights...  My Goblins probably won't make it.

Sicker today, but more medicated.  My sinuses are killing me.
Still I finished the 14 Night Goblins, which means Terry's first unit of 54 Night Goblins is finished and I think I got it done in under two weeks.

Pretty blurry.  and it did something weird with the skintone, blue in there that shouldn't be.

Seeing new Undead pics got me excited enough to drill 6 holes in the Varghulf (or however it's spelled) that I'm working on.

Overall not much work done today.

Bob, you are a rock star.  You're painting allowed my bulls to rally in the play-off game against rudy to day.  I left you payment and another group of ogres.  The army is nearly done and looking great.

Glad the Bulls did their job, Matt :)

And thank you all for the kind words and thoughts.  I can now breathe out of one nostril and am not coughing nearly as much as I was.
Primered White Lions and Outriders and such today, did it in the garage, took twice as long as normal to dry.  Hate priming on a cold damp day.

I finished Curtis' Samurai Dwarf:

1/7/8

Finished Rudy's Outriders, five complete and two top halves.
Painted a little of the base colors on the Legion Abomination what'sit.

Didn't get much done today because I played online for 3-4 hours.

Watched some old X-files as I painted the Outriders.  I gotta say, TV shows are the best for painting, they're mostly talking heads and once you've seen Mulder and Scully respectfully disagree with each other over the origins of some alien hybrid baby you've seen em all.  So I can mostly listen and don't need to look up too much, and the plot moves right along.

I've found the kinds of shows not to watch are are action films, films with sporadic nudity, and foreign films.  With action films, there's so much movement on the screen you can't help but look up occasionally as a spinning heel flashes across the screen.  It's sharp movement out of the corner of your eye, basically, you can't help but look.  Plus you wanna know how the guys head got where it was, and if you're eyes aren't glued that thing whips right off and gets lodged places without you even seeing it.

Foreign films should be self explanatory, I can't paint and read subtitles.  And films with sporadic nudity, well, similar principle to action films.

Resident Evil: Extinction is a good example, flash of green naked person on the screen, look up from model, was that a naked person in that big green tube?  Blur of movement, look up from model, who the heck has a crossbow?

RE:E wasn't bad for some color schemes, though.  Most zombie movies tend to either have too much blood or take place almost entirely in the dark.  This one was in a desert, during the day.  Granted there was a slight yellow filter to enhance the 'deserty' feel, but still I generally go blue/teal or green with my zombie flesh hues, and the brown/yellow/pink wasn't a bad palette for zombie flesh.

I'm considering the Pulk of Tzarina Kattarin for my next Undead army, figure some washed out red, weathered browns, and that yellow/pink skin for the zombies which should go well with the dead grass.  And some dark dark almost red for blood.

And that's why my Goblin army is dead :(  Heck last night I was looking at some Gnoblar heads and thinking with some clips here and there, and a little green stuff they could be zombified...

On a side note, I don't see "buy Jon a sandwich" on your list. I feel this is a massive oversight.

Keep in mind that most of this painting is work for me :)  For example: Today I made my first payment on my college loan.  Thank you, Night Goblins!
I tell people that this is my second job, and they smirk and nod and say 'suuuuure'.

Anyway, I forgot to talk about Monday.

Travis, our GW rep, tells Cliff all about the Fantasy 'Ardboyz tournament.  Cliff hangs up the phone super excited and we start bouncing around army thoughts (much like occurred in the 'ardboyz thread).  He rushes over to his Chaos shelf and noses around and declares that he must have his Hellcannon bumped to the head of his painting queue.  So I nod and say okay.  Then five minutes later he's over at his Orc and Goblin shelf and insists that his Spear Chukkas must be moved to the head of the painting queue.

That's kind of how I feel, I must work on this Varghulf!  It will be fantastic!  Wait, I need to get my old metal zombies out and start converting and testing some paint schemes out!  Just one minute, my necromancers with the Empire wizard kits aren't finished yet and I must finish those!

Meanwhile my plastic Pikemen and plastic Pirazzo's Conquistadors gather dust.

I don't like painting 40K models, they tend to bore me unless I'm doing something interesting like a chapter of rusty Maori headhunters.  Even that doesn't get me far.  So I got to the last batch of Cliff's Praetorians and I've been dragging my feet more than a bit.  Maybe putting one color on, then putting them away, bringing them to work and then cleaning the store.  Stuff like that.  So with Cliff's new priority shift I knew I needed to finally just kick those Praetorians in the butt and get them done, even if that actually involved doing paint work for Cliff at home.

4 Praetorian Heavy Weapons finished.
1 Legion of Everblight one-winged thingie done for Alex.
Worked on some base colors for 10 Goblin Spider Riders.  Red with a purple wash and I'll highlight towards orange/red I think.
Some more base colors on Mark's Carnersaur, it's ready for it's brown ink wash.
And the Daemon Prince has had his arm/wing joint puttied.  This is such a sweet model I reall'y can't imagine messing with it too much, but I'll bring it in next week and have Hoang check it out and give me feedback.  He'll find something.

Not much work done today.  I played on the computer a bit, did some actual drawing, and did some 3D modeling.

All I accomplished today was putting the base wood and bone colors on the 10 Goblin Spider Riders and washing them with brown ink and finishing the red basing for Mark's Carnesaur and beginning the yellow and orange highlights.  Pictures tomorrow.

Oh, and I green stuff'd the arm joint for the Daemon Prince.

I love brown ink, I tend to use it on almost everything.  With Khemri Brown it makes a good generic leather or wood, over bleached bone it creates a nice dirty feel once you re-highlight the bone color.  It looks like rich muddy earth when painted over basing gravel.  And I use it on gold a lot, as well.  Apparently it's the preferred wash for really bringing the bling out in gold.  Definitely something I use a lot of.  Should probably work out other ways of doing leather and wood, but that'll be for one of my personal armies where I can do something crazy and not worry about it.

Chestnut ink is nice too, its still brown but on the red side. For my guardsmen, after their uniforms are all done (which is just a simple matter of drybrush then ink), I've been using straight chestnut ink over their boots and gloves to darken them enough to look like a different material.

I forget which I use over the gold, I think its chestnut though. I use it mostly as a shadow, letting it get into the little cracks and corners to add extra depth. I think its the redish ink mixing with the yellowish gold that leaves a deep orangy color shining back.

I use a mix of brown, black and chesnut inks for the gold on my TKs or just brown/chesnut for anyone else.  Also, using brown ink mixed with glaze medium in a bunch of thin coats can get a good streaked dirt effect.

Nowadays, I can't paint anything red without first mixing in some scorched brown and vallejo black red.  Oh, and Vallejo Vermillion has proven so much more useful than blood red.
When in doubt, empty your clip.

wanted to extend thanks to Bob for the Goblins.  Should be in next Sunday to get my first look.  Being in the field so much makes for few and far between gaming/painting.  Hence why I am glad that Bob could help me.  Glad to hear that the Gobbos did some good with loans.

I'm actually not a big fan of chestnut ink and flesh wash because of how red it is.  For some reason I just don't like that extra color.

I think Morrie's gold (which uses chestnut or flesh, I forget) looks great, though, and I decided to start brown washing my golds after I saw him do it.  Generally I prefer the gold to be a bit less 'blingy' and use a scorched brown/chaos black wash with some glaze medium to age the gold without making the shadows too dark.  Then Reaper Master Series for the highlights.  That's something I've started doing recently, though.

Today I completed Mark's Carnesaur:
Posted Image

I also did some work on Terry's Spider Riders, I decided to split them up after doing the majority of the base coats and washes and work on five at a time.  Ten cavalry models at the same time was just a bit too much, too discouraging.  I'd work for a while and only have red and a purple wash to show for it and feel like I wasn't getting anywhere.  So I figured I'd just kick five out and come back for the other five.  That sense of accomplishment is something that really keeps me going with all these projects.  I find that if I don't have anything cooking at all it's hard to get started.  If I have too many things with paint on them I feel overwhelmed and don't do anything.  So tomorrow I'll get some more models base coated and maybe finish those other five Spiders.

You can see the unfinished Spiders in the background, base coats on them.  The green skin is there, the Mechrite red on the spiders with a purple wash, and bone, leather and wood bits all washed with brown ink.  Now I just have to highlight everything once or twice.

I need to remember to get Cliff's Goblin bits from the store tomorrow so I can get them primed and start working on them.  And I'll make sure to have the Goblins in the store for you Sunday, Terry.  They'll need to go home with you, though.  I have no room! :)

I can not wait to see them. :)
